the history of settlers’ park pre-primary school pietermaritzburg
the history of our school, its beginings to the present
Settlers’ has a proud and long history! The school was started by a group of concerned parents under the chairmanship of Mr. Walker in 1972. This group gained permission from the congregation of All Saints United Church to use the church facilities as a nursery school. The initial enrolment was 30 children. The school was called All Saints Nursery School and Miss Ann Bell was appointed as Supervisor.
In 1975, when the Natal Education Department took over control of all the nursery schools in the province, the dream of a new school began to be realized. A loan from the Pietermaritzburg Corporation enabled the school committee to purchase a suitable piece of land, and building began in mid – 1976.
The new school was named Settlers’ Park Pre-Primary School. Today there are seven classrooms, which provide ample indoor space for the children. The extensive garden is an inviting and exciting play area.
