our school | school fee structures

what are your children's school fees used for?

Fees cover the day to day running of the school. Most of our expenses (75%) are for salaries and wages. At present, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education employs and provides a salary for one teacher. All fees must be paid in advance. Parents may agree to pay annually or monthly.

We have almost arrived at the end of another school year with much to celebrate at Settlers’ Park Pre-primary. In addition to the always popular and successful events such as the Family Fun Day and the Comrades Walk, the school was also subject to an IQAA (Independent Quality Assurance Agency) evaluation in recent months.

The final report was a glowing recommendation which is best summarized by the following quotes:

  • “At Settlers’ Park the areas to celebrate are almost too many to enumerate. Suffice to say that this is a thriving little school for children to enjoy”.
  • “Loyalty to leadership, sound teaching, happy, nurtured children – all are in place at Settlers”.

Thanks and congratulations must go to Ellen Borain and her dedicated team, all of whom have worked tirelessly to make Settlers’ Park Pre-Primary School a wonderful place for our children to be educated.

Strict financial controls are applied in order to keep the running costs of the School at a sustainable level. This is increasingly challenging in the current financial climate, and innovative solutions have been sought to combat these increases.

The Approved Fee structure for 2018 is as follows:

The annual school fees for 2018 will be R22, 440.00 (2017: R20, 780.00). Payments of R2, 244.00 per month are payable over a 10 month period, with the first payment due by 3 February 2018 and the final payment due by 3 November 2018. The school fees include a once off annual fee to cover Marsh Personal Accident insurance of R229.00 per child, plus Netcare 911 Scholar Traumalink Insurance of R38.00 per child, which is compulsory for all children attending the school.

Development Levy:

The management team at Settlers’ Park continually seeks to improve and upgrade the school facilities through the use of targeted fundraising, as well as utilising the available resources as efficiently as possible. To this end, a Development Levy of R50.00 per child per month, payable over 10 months, will be charged. This amount is over and above the school fees and the levy will be used in conjunction with fundraising activities to continue to upgrade the school facilities. Fundraising is a time consuming and labour intensive process, which at times draws the focus of teachers and support staff away from their core roles. The addition of this levy seeks to spread the load over the year for parents and staff alike.

Early Settlement Discount (School Fees only):

Parents who provide proof of payment of the annual school fees IN FULL before the 3rd February 2018 will be entitled to a discount of 4% on the annual fee. A sibling discount on school fees is also available to parents with more than one child attending the school simultaneously. This discount is 2%.

Aftercare fees for 2018 will be as follows:

Aftercare fees have also been increased from January 2018. Please see the table below:

The figures below are for FULL afternoon: if your child is fetched before 14:30, these rates will be halved. If you always fetch your child before 13:00, a third of the full afternoon fee will be charged.

Number Of Days Per Week Annual Fees (R) Monthly Fee (R)
5 Days 6350 635
4 Days 5080 508
3 Days 3810 381
2 Days 2540 254
1 Day 1270 127
Casual daily rate R52
The casual daily rate will be R52.00. Such fees will be debited to fee accounts in arrears each month. Note: If your child is fetched late from school (between 12:30 and 13:00), you will be charged R12.00 per incident.

We have made every effort to ensure that the above fees are as affordable as possible for all parents of our school. Should you have any queries or concerns relating to the above fees, please feel free to contact Ellen or myself and we will be more than happy to address your concerns.

The Board of Governors would like to thank the parent body for the continued support in creating a very warm and happy environment in which our children endeavor to learn and grow.

We look forward to an exciting 2018.

Yours faithfully

Jethro Morrison
