our school | school fee structure

what are your children's school fees used for?

Fees cover the day to day running of the school. Most of our expenses (75%) are for salaries and wages. At present, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education employs and provides a salary for one teacher. All fees must be paid in advance. Parents may agree to pay annually or monthly.

ANNUAL SCHOOL FEES: 2021

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents for their commitment to paying fees despite the difficult circumstances that prevailed this year.

A big thank you and congratulations must go to Ellen Borain and her dedicated team, all of whom continue to work tirelessly to make Settlers' Park Pre-Primary School a wonderful, safe place for our children to be educated. With Covid19, this has been a particularly challenging time for schools.

the governing body has approved the following fee structure for 2021.

SCHOOL FEES for 2021 will be R27,600.00 (2020: R25,900.00). This is an increase of 6.56%. Payments of R2,760.00 per month are payable over a 10-month period, with the first instalment being payable by 3 February 2021, and the final instalment being due by 3 November 2021. The school fees INCLUDE the annual fee of R275.00 for Marsh Learners' Personal Accident Insurance, which is now compulsory for all children attending the school [SEE ATTACHED BROCHURE] The fees also include a set of name tags for marking ALL the child's possessions.

early settlement discount

Parents who provide proof of payment of the annual school fees IN FULL before 3 February 2021 will be entitled to a 4% discount. A sibling discount on school fees is also available to parents with more than one child attending the school simultaneously. This discount is 2% per child.

Section 18a donations

With regards to Section 18a donations, I want to make use of this opportunity to remind parents that Settlers’ Park is an Approved Public Benefit Organization (PBO). Therefore, any bona fide donation made to the school entitles the taxpayer to a tax deduction from his/her taxable income, provided the donation is actually paid or transferred during the year of assessment. This does not apply to amounts paid for school fees or school entrance fees and has to be a bona fide donation. Should you have any queries or concerns relating to the above fees, please feel free to contact Ellen or myself and we will be more than happy to address your concerns. We look forward to an exciting 2021.

occasional casual use or late fetching charges

Such amounts will be charged to monthly fee account in arrears:

[UP TO 13:15: Rl5.75 / BETWEEN 13:15 AND 14:45: R31.S0 / BETWEEN 14:45 AND 17:15: R63.00]

If your child is fetched late from Aftercare (after 17:15}, you will be charged R40.00 per 5 minutes after 17:15.

annual development levy for 2021

: A Development Levy of R700.00 per annum is payable to reduce the number of necessary fundraising projects and to facilitate fair distribution of fundraising efforts across the parent body. This will be charged to the fee accounts at the rate of R70.00 per month (First payment due 3 February 2021 and last due by 3 Novembe r 2021.) This will be used to enhance school facilities and purchase new equipment.

N.B. If a child joins Settlers' at a later stage in the year, the pro-rata fees will be calculated.

Please note that one instalment is not equivalent to one month of school attendance. This is due to the way the fee payment plan is structured over 10 instalments (not 12). For example, if a child joins the school in Term 3, parents would be liable for half the year's fees or for five instalments. In this case, the first payment for the second half of the year is due by 3 July and the last by 3 November etc.

Yours sincerely
