Ellen qualified as a Foundation Phase teacher
from Natal Training College in 1982. She has
taught in the Pre-Primary and Junior Primary
School grades. She was instrumental in setting
up two Pre-Primary Schools in Donnybrook and
Ixopo. She also started the Grade R section at
Merchiston Preparatory School. Ellen has taught
remedial classes and has been a school
In 2004, Ellen won a national teaching award
in the Early Childhood category. She is a
passionate teacher with a love for children. She
enjoys close interaction with the parents of
pupils in her care.
On a personal level, Ellen is married to
Richard. Her son, Kyle is a doctor in Dublin, Ireland. Her
daughter, Siobhan completed her honours degree at Stellenbosch University and is a jeweller and she and her husband, Nicholas live in Durban.
In her spare time, Ellen enjoys relaxing at a
game reserve or the beach. She is an avid reader
and loves spending time with her family and

Lyn's Personal Profile
Lyn was born and educated in
Pietermaritzburg, and has lived here all her
Lyn obtained a B. Com. Degree, majoring in
Marketing and Business Finance from the
University of Natal. After working for the Head
Office of the Provincial Hospital Services
Department for three years, she became a
full-time housewife and mother for sixteen
years, returning to work in a part-time capacity
when her children had all begun to attend
school. She has three children who all attended
Settlers’. Her son still lives and works in
Pietermaritzburg, whilst her one daughter is
working abroad and the other is studying at
Lyn has been our School Secretary since 2002,
and her association with the school spans a
period of more than 30 years!
Lyn has always adored children, and feels
privileged to work with these precious young
people. It is certainly a unique environment as
not many bookkeepers get to balance their books
to the background strains of "Twinkle, Twinkle
Little Star", or to regularly have cup-cakes
decorated with Jelly Tots and Smarties with
their morning tea!!
Ms Kerri HolderLocum Bees
Kerri's Personal Profile
Kerri grew up in Pietermaritzburg. She matriculated from The Wykeham Collegiate in 2008. She completed 3 years at the Isa Carstens Beauty Academy in Stellenbosch and obtained a diploma in Somatology. She made good use of this diploma when she worked overseas on cruise liners for a year.
Whilst working at Neroli Health and Body in Pietermaritzburg, she obtained her Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase through UNISA. Kerri has completed her practical training at Merchiston Preparatory School over the past four years and she loved every minute of it.
She has a passion for young children and feels privileged to be able to assist them in reaching their milestones. Kerri is very excited to be joining the Settlers Park family in the first term as the locum teacher in the Bees class while Mrs Tanya Valentine is on maternity leave.

Isa's Personal Profile
Isa began teaching
at Settlers' in 2011. She is married to Johann
and has two children: Jennifer and Peter.
Isa studied at Edgewood Training College of
Education where she qualified as a Pre-Primary
and Junior Primary Teacher. She also has a Post
Graduate Diploma in Montessori Education.
Isa is passionate about the development of
children, and strives to see them reach their
full potential. She recognises the uniqueness
and individuality of each child and regards
every one as very special.

Mrs Vicky von ReicheLadybirds
Vicky's Personal Profile
Vicky has grown up in Pietermaritzburg, and completed her Bachelor of Education Degree through UNISA in 2008. Whilst studying she ran a holiday care at New England Pre-Primary. She was also an assistant teacher at Kingsway Educentre. During this period she was a boarder mistress at Merchiston. Once Vicky had completed her degree, she taught Grade 3 for four years at Maritzburg Prep. Vicky then was a full-time mum for 4 years to her two boys, Carl and Liam. For the past year she has been a locum teacher at Laddsworth and Hilton Pre-Primary schools.
Vicky is passionate about children and teaching. She enjoys using different approaches for individual children. She finds it rewarding to see a child come to an understanding of a new concept.
She is married to Egbert, and together with their boys they enjoy the simple things in life, such as family picnics and fishing.
Mrs Carrie EriksonButterflies
Carrie's Personal Profile
studied for her B.Ed. Degree (Foundation Phase)
through Varsity College in Pietermaritzburg.
After spending a year at the college she decided
to study directly through UNISA and work
part-time in her chosen field. She completed her
degree in 2011. During the course of her
studies, Carrie had the opportunity to work in
various schools: She ran an aftercare centre and
later worked as a very successful teaching
assistant to the Principal at Settlers’. It was
no surprise therefore that Carrie was offered a
full time teaching post at Settlers’ in 2013.
Carrie studied Psychomotor during 2012 and successfully completed her
training at the end of that year. She runs the Psychomotor programme at Settlers’ with great dedication and enthusiasm.
Carrie is delighted to have had the opportunity to teach and nurture the
children in the Caterpillar Class. She is excited at the prospect of assisting
the children of the Caterpillar Group to mature and grow and watch friendships
develop in a safe environment where the children are free to be themselves.
Carrie lives in Howick with her husband Tim. During the weekends, she
loves to pursue her creative hobbies. She especially enjoys painting and

Melissa's Personal Profile
Melissa was born in Pietermaritzburg and has lived here her entire
life. Melissa has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Criminology from Varsity College
and UNISA. She completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Foundation Phase)
through UKZN in 2011. Melissa is now teaching the Caterpillars group for the 2018 school year.
Melissa loves working with children and has a keen interest in their development as
individuals. She is passionate about teaching and has known since a young age that it is what
she wanted to do. She enjoys literature, cooking and baking, and spends her spare time doing arts

Robyn has been teaching

Robyn thoroughly enjoys teaching the

Heather's Personal Profile
Heather grew up in
Zululand and matriculated at Eshowe High. She
studied in Durban and obtained a Diploma in Pre-
Primary School Teaching. She taught Grade RR in
Eshowe at Noah’s Ark Pre-Primary before going
overseas to America as an Au pair. Heather then
went to the UK where she travelled and helped
out as an assistant at various schools with
special needs. On her return she worked at New
England Pre-Primary for 6 years as a Grade R &
RR teacher. In 2010 she started teaching at
Settlers’ Park Pre-Primary as the Butterfly
After a year and a half, Heather then left to
be a full-time mom, but still continued to help
out with locums at Settlers’ Park. Now that her
children are both in Primary School, Heather feels
privileged to be the teacher of our youngest class,
the Fireflies. Her motto is to teach
children the way she would like her children to
be taught: that is with love, encouragement and
building up their self- confidence so that the
children can blossom to their full potential.
Heather is married to Brett Teichmann who is
an accountant at Unilever and is blessed with
two beautiful girls: Jenna and Kayla.
Mrs Marika WitthÖftAftercare
Marika's Personal Profile
Marika was born and
raised in Estcourt where she also completed her
formal schooling. She qualified as a pre-primary
school educator through TREE (TRAINING AND
RESOURCES IN EARLY EDUCATION).
Marika then become the Principal of the
Lions’ Crèche in Estcourt, a position she held
for seven years. She then joined the Estcourt
Christian Academy, where she taught for thirteen
Marika is also a music teacher and had her
own music school in Estcourt.
Marika and her husband, Ronald have now
relocated to Pietermaritzburg.
Marika is delighted to be a member of the
Settlers’ staff. Children are her passion and
she has their interests at heart.
Ms Melissa MeiringAftercare Assistant
Melissa's Personal Profile
appointed as our Aftercare Assistant in April
2015, after making a wonderful impression as a
voluntary Teachers’ Assistant for the first few
months of the year.
Melissa was an intern teacher during the mornings last year, but this year she will be back in her position as the Aftercare assistant.
Melissa was born in Pietermaritzburg and has
lived here her whole life. She matriculated from
Epworth High School in 2013, and will be
studying for a B. Ed (Foundation Phase) Degree
at Varsity College from 2016.
Melissa loves children of all ages. In her
spare time, she enjoys ballet, music, singing
and the outdoor life.

Lisa's Personal Profile
Lisa is now in her final year of studying Foundation Phase Education through UNISA. She grew up in Port Elizabeth
and has relocated to Pietermaritzburg with her husband, Jaco.
Lisa worked as a Grade R assistant teacher and Aftercare invigilator at Olke Bolke in Port Elizabeth for two years. She has a desire to be part of the
foundational developments of a child, assisting them to grow into the best person they can be.
Lisa enjoys the outdoor life of camping and picnics as well as baking and was actively involved in her home church in Port Elizabeth.

Som completed her Bachelor of Education Degree in Pre-Primary School teaching in 2011. Thereafter she taught Kindergarten for the next 4 years at Wat Changlek School in Bangkok, Thailand.
In 2015 she immigrated to South Africa with her husband, Jamie. She began helping out in various classes at Settlers’ Park Pre-Primary School. In 2016 she joined the staff as a full time assistant teacher in the Firefly class. Som is also an Aftercare assistant.

Charlene has joined our staff as an Intern teacher. She relocated to the Midlands from Cape Town three years ago. She has been working with Kerry's Flowers and Decor. She is currently studying towards her B.Ed. degree in Early Childhood Development and Foundation Phase Teaching through UNISA.

Caenthe Thomson matriculated in 2013 from Howick High School. In 2014 she volunteered as a teaching assistant at Hilltops Pre School in Hilton. She is studying at Varsity College towards her Foundation Phase degree through UNISA.
Caenthe has dreamed about being a pre-school teacher since she was a little girl. She is so grateful to be able to fulfil her passion.
In her spare time Caenthe enjoys dancing, baking and babysitting. Caenthe is very interested in conservation and loves visiting nature reserves and spending time outdoors.

Megan has lived in Pietermaritzburg for 21 years and she enjoys everything this little town has to offer. She matriculated from The Wykeham Collegiate in 2011 and started studying at UKZN towards a degree in Psychology and Marketing. After obtaining her undergraduate degree, she worked towards her honours degree in Psychology which is where her passion lies.
She has a special interest in children and their psychological well-being and development. She has been volunteering at Joseph Baynes Home teaching children basic education and a foundation for them to grow on.
In her spare time she enjoys creative activities, volunteering at LifeLine, being outdoors and surrounded by family, as well as cooking.
Ms Destiny VosTeaching Assistant
Destiny's Personal Profile
Destiny was born in Tzaneen (Limpopo) but she grew up and completed her school career in Pietermaritzburg. Destiny excelled in hockey and was appointed the 1st team's captain in 2016. In 2017 she had the honour of being appointed as the Head Girl of Newton Pre-Vocational School. She completed her High School career in 2017.
Modelling is one of her interests, but her passion lies with children and this is where she will build her career. She has a soft spot in her heart for children with special needs.
