Isa began teaching at Settlers' in 2011. She is married to Johann and has two children: Jennifer and Peter.
Isa studied at Edgewood Training College of Education where she qualified as a Pre-Primary and Junior Primary Teacher. She also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Montessori Education.
Isa is passionate about the development of children through music, movement and drama, and strives to see them reach their full potential. She recognises the uniqueness and individuality of each child and regards every one as very special.
Isa feels privileged to be part of the Settlers’ family.
Amanda Webb has worked in a school environment for the last 19 years at the same Junior Primary school in Pietermaritzburg. She had the privilege of being a Teacher Assistant and working hands on with the children from Grade 1 to Grade 3 for 16 years. She then worked in the school administration department as the school secretary and Personal Assistant to the headmaster. Amanda loves working with children and seeing them blossom and develop their characters.
Amanda was born in Durban and moved to Pietermaritzburg in 1994.She is married to Dave. They have two daughters who are both teachers in Durban. In her spare time, she loves to bake, sew and read. She enjoys spending time with her family.
Melissa was born in Pietermaritzburg and has lived here her entire life. Melissa has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Criminology from Varsity College and UNISA. She completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Foundation Phase) through UKZN in 2011.
Melissa loves working with children and has a keen interest in their development as individuals. She is passionate about teaching and has known since a young age that it is what she wanted to do. She enjoys literature, cooking and baking, and spends her spare time doing arts and crafts.
Marzelle grew up on the South Coast. She relocated to Pietermaritzburg in 2018. She has recently obtained a Bachelor of Education degree in Foundation Phase through Stadio School of Education.
Marzelle has a passion for working with learners, focusing on their holistic development. She has been a facilitator for children with specific needs, an aupair and she has experience as a teaching assistant.
In Marzelle's spare time she enjoys painting, drawing and spending most of her time outdoors with family and friends.
Megan Deacon matriculated from Pietermaritzburg Girls High School in 2019. She graduated from Pretoria university with a BA degree, majoring in psychology and education last year. She is currently doing her honours in Psychology and she is planning to do a PGCE later this year.
Megan has always enjoyed working with children. It brings a smile to her face every day. She finds it very rewarding to watch children grow and see them progress during the year.
In her spare time, she enjoys exercising whether it's a run or a gym session. She also enjoys reading a book and beading during her down time.
Lisa was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg. She matriculated at Heritage Academy in 2006. She worked in the corporate world for eleven years, but she always had a passion and a heart for children. Her dream was always to become a teacher, which she believes is her calling.
She began studying towards a Bachelor of Education Degree for Foundation Phase through UNISA in 2018 and graduated at the end of 2021. During this time, she was at Settlers’ Park Pre-Primary for three years as an intern where knowledge and experience was instilled.
After she completed her studies, she was employed at New England Pre-Primary as a Grade R & RR teacher where she has been since January 2022.
Lisa is delighted to be back at Settler's Pre-Primary School as the Crickets teacher. She loves teaching children of this age. Her other passions are cooking, baking, spending quality time with family and visiting her happy place, the ocean.
Heather matriculated at Eshowe High. She studied in Durban and obtained a Diploma in Pre- Primary School Teaching. She taught Grade RR in Eshowe at Noah’s Ark Pre-Primary before going overseas to America as an Au pair. Heather then went to the UK where she travelled and worked as an assistant at various special needs schools. On her return, she worked at New England Pre-Primary for six years as a Grade R & RR teacher. In 2010 she started teaching at Settlers’ Park Pre-Primary as the Butterfly teacher.
After a year and a half, Heather left to be a full-time mom, but continued to locum at Settlers’ Park. Now that her children are older, Heather has returned to the school and feels privileged to be the teacher of our youngest class, the Fireflies. Her motto is to teach children the way she would like her children to be taught with love, encouragement and building up their self- confidence so that they can blossom to their full potential.
Heather is married to Brett Teichmann and is blessed with two beautiful girls: Jenna and Kayla.
Peyton was born in Pietermaritzburg and she has lived here all her life. She matriculated at Carter High school in 2017. She is currently studying towards a B.Ed. degree in Foundation Phase Education.
She has a passion for working with little children. She is very interested in educational matters and it has always been her dream to be a teacher. Peyton enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys baking in her free time.
Megan Struwig attended Settlers Park Pre-Primary as a child. She matriculated from Pietermaritzburg Girls High in 2020. She is currently studying towards a B. Ed degree for Foundation Phase through Stadio. Megan has always had a soft spot for children, but knew she definitely wanted to become a teacher after her brother was born.
Some of Megan's interests are spending time with her little brother, reading and writing poetry and baking.
She assists both as in the classroom and at our Aftercare facility in the afternoons.
Jocelynn is married to Ridwaan. They have two children: Sergio and Elliana-Mae'. Jocelynn has worked in a school environment for the last 8 years. She is currently studying towards a higher certificate in pre-school Education . On completion, she looks forward to completing her B.Ed degree in Foundation Phase teaching.
Jocelynn has a passion for working with little ones. She loves teaching and inspiring young minds to become creative thinkers and independent learners. In her free time, she enjoys creating arts and crafts with her children and spending quality time with her family.
She is thrilled to be a member of the Settlers’ Park team and she looks forward to a long and bright future at the school.
Som completed her Bachelor of Education Degree in Pre-Primary School teaching in 2011. Thereafter she taught Kindergarten for the next 4 years at Wat Changlek School in Bangkok, Thailand.
In 2015 she immigrated to South Africa with her husband, Jamie. She began helping out in various classes at Settlers’ Park Pre-Primary School. In 2016 she joined the staff as a full time assistant teacher in the Firefly class.
Som enjoys exercising, cooking, crochet and has a passion for educating children.
Shelby O'Connell matriculated from The Wykeham Collegiate in 2020. She has a keen interest in teaching. She will soon begin studying art and has loved singing all her life.
Shelby’s interest in teaching was sparked by her two younger cousins whom she has cared for. She assists both as a teaching assistant and at our Aftercare facility in the afternoons.
She is excited to learn from the rest of the staff at Settlers' Park.
Jennifer van Heerden matriculated from Grace College in 2022. She has always loved working with children and has a keen interest in working with little ones who have challenges to face. Her passion began while helping her mom, Mrs Isa van Heerden who is a teacher with many years’ experience.
Jennifer is currently studying a degree in Foundation Phase teaching. She loves music and she finds brain development and body movement very interesting. She loves to bake, draw and paint in her free time. Working with children will always be close to her heart.
Kayla Lourens matriculated at Grace College in 2020. She is currently doing her second year of studies at Caversham Institution.
After matriculating at Grace College, she took a gap year and aupaired, looking after friends’ children. She started studying at Varsity College in 2021 and began her teaching career. Last year she was a teaching assistant at Ridge Roots.
She likes being around children and watching them grow. She enjoys the company of friends and family and making the most of every moment. In her spare time, she is often outdoors and is eager to go on new adventures.
Veronica is the longest serving staff member at Settlers’ Park. She started working at our school on 1 November 2002. She has been with us for over 21 years. Veronica is a mom to 3 children – 2 daughters and a son. She has 6 grandsons. In her spare time, Veronica likes gardening and spending time with her family.
Emmaculate has been at Settlers’ Park since 2007. She has done a TREE course (Training and Early Resources). Emmaculate has 4 sons. She looks after her 2 young cousins as well. They live with her. Emmaculate enjoys being with her children and she loves every opportunity to go shopping.
Maureen started working at Settlers’ Park in September 2010. Maureen is mom to 2 sons and a daughter. She has two grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys cleaning her house. She loves planting flowers and vegetables in her garden. She enjoys being with her family and friends and she is involved in her church.
Mavis started working at Settlers’ Park in 2020. She is a mom of 2 grown children, a son and daughter and she has a grandson and a granddaughter. Mavis likes to cook, clean, play football and netball in her spare time. She likes to be involved in helping her friends and neighbours. Mavis is involved in a community garden near her home.
Excellent started working at Settlers’ Park in May 2023. Excellent has 1 son. She enjoys cooking, cleaning and working in her garden when she is at home.
